“Leaders become great, not because of their power but, because of their ability of empowering others”
- John Maxwell
A strong leader has to be quick in decision-making, inspire people, and bring out the best in people by empowering and motivating them. Compassion, rigour & resilience are three of the important strengths any strong leader should possess. The three have a much deeper meaning. Resilience is the ability to adapt to difficult situations, in fact, learn from such circumstances and move on. It's a known fact that human beings are highly resilient, but this true strength comes to the fore when faced with the most demanding & strenuous situations. People who learn the art of resilience recover from tough situations and come back even stronger. Any leader will face situations which are not easy, maybe even failures. So it's important for him/her to have resilience and keep pushing on.
The attitude of care, helpfulness & empathy is compassion. It is our foremost duty as human beings to have compassion towards fellow human beings, in fact towards all forms of nature around us, including plants, animals, & all resources of mother nature. Compassion helps us build collaboration. Collaboration with compassion (and empathy) leads to the open sharing of ideas and an increase in knowledge of all. Compassion also leads to more tolerance in society. And tolerance leads to peace.
Our compassion towards others builds resilience in them by building their confidence & belief in themselves! So it's important for a good leader to be compassionate in order to understand others, work in teams and meet goals.
Rigour signifies thoroughness & persistence. Achievement of any task is a result of not giving up despite difficulties. Also, being careful at every step leads to better results. Every successful leader is mindful of the results of their actions. Any tough initiative which needs the involvement of many people from various parts of society or from multiple countries will need leadership which is detailed, thorough and careful
Leaders who are strong humans should possess qualities of understanding others, being open-minded and who can ensure the achievement of objectives. And this is where Resilience, Compassion & Rigour are the most important qualities that are desired since Resilience leads to individual strength, Compassion leads to peace & harmony amongst all forms of life, and Rigour leads to improved output from human effort.
